Overview
Society 5.0 — coined by the Japanese government in 2016 — envisions a human-centred society that uses AI, IoT, robots, and big data to solve social challenges such as ageing, depopulation, and energy while maintaining individual wellbeing. Unlike Industry 4.0, Society 5.0 explicitly measures success in human flourishing, not productivity alone. This programme examines concrete Society 5.0 implementations across Japanese ministries, corporations, and municipalities.
Program Objectives
- Understand the philosophy and policy architecture of Society 5.0.
- Analyse concrete implementations of Society 5.0 in Japanese public and private sectors.
- Design a Society 5.0-inspired national or city-level strategy.
