Overview
Mottainai (what a waste!) is a deeply embedded Japanese cultural attitude that has been formalised into the 3R Policy (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and a comprehensive suite of product-specific recycling laws covering home appliances, automobiles, food waste, and construction materials. Japan recycles 84% of its aluminium and 77% of its PET bottles. This programme visits recycling facilities, Kamikatsu (Japan zero-waste town), and packaging innovation labs.
Program Objectives
- Understand the cultural and policy foundations of Japan zero-waste philosophy.
- Analyse Japan 3R Policy and product-specific recycling legislation.
- Design a circular economy policy framework for a national context.
