Gemba Leadership: Decisions from the Field, Not the Office

Genchi Genbutsu as a deep leadership methodology — how Japanese managers make decisions based on visible reality rather than reports, with field application in real Japanese facilities.

Osaka, Japan
5 days 35 hrs Osaka, Japan ar / 15 seats

Overview

Gemba (the real place) leadership means going to where the work actually happens — the factory floor, the hospital ward, the service counter — to make decisions based on first-hand observation. This programme teaches the structured Gemba Walk methodology, the 3G principle (Genchi, Genbutsu, Genjitsu), and how to build organisational habits of field-based problem-solving. Participants conduct Gemba Walks in real Japanese facilities and debrief with host managers.

Program Objectives

  • Understand the philosophy and methodology of Gemba leadership.
  • Conduct a structured Gemba Walk using the 3G principle.
  • Build a Gemba-based problem-solving habit for their team.
  • Design a field-based decision-making system for your organisation.

Requirements

  • Operations managers, quality directors, department heads, and leaders managing teams in field environments.

Why This Program?

Stop Managing From Reports. Start Leading From the Real Place.

Five days in Osaka learning Gemba Walk methodology and field-based decision making from Japanese managers.

Why this program
Most leaders decide from dashboards and second-hand reports. Gemba leadership trains you to see problems, ask better questions, and act based on real field evidence. This programme combines classroom methodology with live Gemba Walks in real facilities.
Why Japan
Japan perfected Gemba as a management discipline through Toyota Production System and Genchi Genbutsu, making Osaka factories an ideal classroom.

Nomination Eligibility

This programme is designed for professionals nominated by their organisations to undergo specialised training in Japan. Nominees should have organisational sponsorship and a clear mandate to apply the learnings upon return.

Why Train in Japan

Japan is the birthplace of the methodologies taught in this programme. Training in Japan provides direct exposure to the original practices, site visits to world-class facilities, and interaction with Japanese experts who pioneered these approaches — an experience impossible to replicate in a local classroom.

Why Train Overseas

Overseas training in Japan offers immersive access to the source of these management and operational philosophies. Participants gain cultural context, real-world observation, and networking opportunities with Japanese organisations that cannot be delivered through domestic or online alternatives.

Field Visits Note

Field visits are subject to host organisation availability and may be substituted with alternative sites of equivalent educational value without prior notice.
