Overview

The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami caused over 20,000 deaths and $360 billion in damage. From that tragedy, Japan produced the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030, now the global standard for DRR policy. This programme combines expert lectures with field visits to rebuilt coastal communities, memorial museums, and recovery infrastructure in Tohoku.

Program Objectives

  • Understand the four priorities of the Sendai Framework.
  • Analyse Japan reconstruction model as a post-disaster governance case.
  • Design a disaster risk reduction strategy aligned with the Sendai Framework.
