Overview
Japanese corporate compliance is rooted in the concept of collective responsibility and institutional shame (haji) rather than fear of external penalties. This programme examines how Japanese companies embed compliance into onboarding, daily management routines, and supplier relationships — and why their internal whistleblowing systems have higher report rates than Western counterparts. Includes case analyses of major Japanese corporate governance failures and recoveries.
Program Objectives
- Understand the cultural foundations of Japanese corporate compliance.
- Design an internal control system inspired by Japanese collective-responsibility principles.
- Build an effective corporate whistleblowing mechanism.
